Everyone knows what a magnet is, but there are different types of magnets available both naturally and by manufacturing them. Permanent magnets are a type of magnet that has their own magnetic field. Additionally, some elements and metals that can hold a magnetic field are also called a permanent magnet, such as some rare earth metals, the natural mineral lodestone, cobalt, iron, and nickel, which are all metals. These materials are called ferromagnetic because they react strongly and naturally attract to the magnetic fields. When a permanent magnet is manufactured, they use a hard ferromagnetic material, which is processed using a high temperature. Then, a processes using an especially powerful magnetic field reorganizes the material?s internal microcrystalline structure to align them properly. This alignment procedure causes the magnet to be so strong that it is almost impossible to demagnetize. The alignment also causes the material to begin to attract or repel other magnets, depending what kind of magnetic field is applied.
